Hey Corrina, Pat here on another query.Sebastian Provencher, Sr. was already in Canada when he married Margaret.geprovencher gave you the correct information on Sebastian. His life in Canada is documented in very early census records, civil records and church notations. The information you received from that researcher in Maine is not correct. The only question we all have is the exact location of Sebastian, Sr's birth. There are a few locations given, all within a few miles of each other in France.
I want to refer you to a book written in 1996 by Gerald Provencher called "Our Ancestor Sebastian Provencher."The book is written in French but I was able to use Google Translator to take out parts I needed and put them into English.
Sebastian is also listed on the 1667 "Regional Census for Quebec Province, Canada" (Petit Cap-de-le-Madeleine) translated from French to English.
You need to contact me at [email protected] so I can give you what I have on Sebastian.Your ancestor--Sebastian's son--had ten children we know of and because he was not in the direct line I was working on, I never added those children and their descendants to my database.I don't think it would be an exageration to say there would be thousands of persons descended from Sebastian, Sr! and my gut tells me most of the persons who have been in Lewiston, Maine the longest are probably related somewhere down the line.
