I am researching the Proud family of Houghton-le-Spring William Proud born 1823, son of George (or John George) and Susannah Proud James Proud married to Margaret Jackson in 1846 both events in Houghton-le-Spring (we have the church birth record transcription and online marriage summary). The place names Hetton Le Hole and Rainton also showed up in our records so far.

Our William Proud was married in 1840 in Easington (Kelloe) to Jane Greggs (daughter of John Greggs and Sarah Hutchinson), had two sons there (they lived in New Thornley) and immigrated to the U.S. in 1849; our William Proud and the James Proud above were listed on the same census pages in the U.S. (1870-1880) (James and Margaret immigrated in or after 1861) so we strongly feel there is connection. (We also know a descendant of James and Margaret Proud; both William and James had descendants who married into the same Gordon family in the U.S.).

We have some of the marriage and baptism records for the above information but we are looking for information that is not available on the internet (local research).
