Chrissy,

Been doing a little work myself on family history. I've got Proud relatives from Durham county, as well. George Proud married an Ann Jane Newton in 1844. George supposedly went on an expedition never to be heard from again. Ann married a Thomas Lawther in 1855 and moved to America the next year. George and Ann had 2 sons, Matthew and Anthony, and a daughter (but I can't recall her name). I found both Matt and Anthony on an 1880 census in Kansas. Don't know anything about how or when they got there. My Prouds eventually all settled in Colorado, as coal miners. Any chance we share some relatives? I've got some 1861 UK census info, but that is about it. Try the following link to get more info: http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/index.php Has a lot of info
