Hi John,
Your research has been much more rewarding than mine. I am new to genealogy and inexperienced with P.C's - bear with me and I will record what I can from family history and anecdote.
My grandfather Robert W. (namesake) died approx 1956. My father, Stephen, 1979. My mother, Barbara (94yrs)recalls Thomas and George as bros. of my grandfather. She is fairly certain that there was a Jenny too, but she never met her.
Robert W, and Tom were farm labourers. The former taking occasional work as a miner. He moved to Tudhoe Co Durham where my father was raised. I knew old Bob very well. His second marriage was to Elizabeth Shippen who was 5/6 years his senior.
As I said prev. my good neighbour Alma's maiden name was Proud. She was born within a few miles of Houghton. When she returns (hols)I will ask for details of her G/F - almost certainly one of the 14. By the way I have a picture of the church George and Jane married in. Went out of curiosity as I live near Newcastle.
Finally: Please try bobproud@BTinternet.com
Thanks again
Bob
