Cheryl - 9 Jan 2001 I hope I can shed some light on this gray area of the family. Francis and his son John Hoover Protzman are definitely in my family of Protzmans, that originated in Witgenborn, Hesse-Nassau, Germany. Francis (Franz) was Lawrence (nephew of Lorenz) Protzman's son. Francis married Maria Dorothea Hoover. They were members of Beard's (St Peter's) Lutheran Church in Washington county, Maryland. Their son Peter, brother of John Hoover Protzman, married Susannah Ridenour Dec 22, 1827. Washington county marriage records and the Hagerstown paper confirm this. I only have 3 confirmed children for Peter and Susan; Marie Dorothy, b. 1829; Elizabeth Luise, b. 1830; and Joanah, b. 1835. The obituary of Ferdinand Protzman, b. 1840 in Waynesboro, PA., states he was the son of John Hoover Protzman, but I have been unable to find a record of the birth. Ferdinand moved to Indiana the same time John Hoover P. did and eventually wound up in the Pittsburgh area, a very wealthy and influential man. I have been able to piece together parts of this family line, but cannot show the definite link (actual proof) of Sarah's birth to Peter and Susan, or the birth of Ferdinand to John Hoover and Sarah Chilcote Protzman. Peter and John H., both seem to have moved to Indiana just before the Civil War, census records show this, but again I have come up short pinning down the deaths of the two husbands. I hope I have contributed something other than more questions. Please let me know if you have any luck with Sarah. I will check out Wapello, Iowa when I go home to Iowa in February. I'll let you know what I find. Sincerely, Leo S. Prottsman
