Protzmann Port of Entry... Leo?

Leo, or anyone...

Of the Protzmann's (and various other spellings) that are from the Hessen area, who came to the US in 1850 or so, where did they arrive in the country? I've been under the assumption that my family may have come directly to St. Louis, MO. However, as I think about it, why would they come directly to St. Louis when I don't believe there are any other family members in this area? Logically, they started elsewhere. I have no evidence either direction.. just thinking out loud.
