Dear Alice,
are You sure, that Your ancestor´s original name was Prokipchuk? It is probably only ukrainian speech of this name. Original was written PROKOPÈÁK (PROKOPCIAK, listen: Prokopchak), but ukrainian speech is Prokipchak (here in the Slovakia does speak some comunities ukrainian, my mother and late grandfather too).
By Immigration to the U.S.A., or Canada wrote immigrant officers names so, as they hear it. It happend often in 17.-18. Century. If You want to find something more, please look our Family Site with Family Tree of family Jadlos, or contact me, please.
Our great-grandfather did went to the U.S.A. about 1910 (?) and he died there, but we know not where, and when.
My grandfather Ján Prokopèák was some time in the Romania, too, for maybe 7 years, between 1st and 2nd world war. Some of his sibling did stay there.
