My Dear Mrs. MACDOUGALL:
I guess you think quite strange of me for not filling out your blanks nor answering your appreciated letter before this. The first one that came I was on a trip to Texas and Mexico with my sick son who died only a few weeks ago. Of course my being in troubles caused the delay.
I found my mother had the old family bible that has the following information but of course it does not give all details. First I'm going to refer you to my cousin, which I believe to be your first cousin from your letters. Mrs. Emma JAMISON DAVIS, 945 7th Ave. Bristol, Tennessee. She will know more of your immediate family that I do. Aunt Barbara PRILLAMAN JAMISON was her grandmother, and my aunt. George PRILLAMAN, Sr., brother to Aunt Barbara PRILLAMAN,if living today would be 125 years of age. It has not been but a short while since Mrs. Emma JAMISON DAVIS went to these old people's tombs and got all the information possible. She is now going to paint for me and for herself our "Coat of Arms". She is a wonderful artist. I of course can remember Uncle Fleming and Aunt Barbary [sic] and grandfather George PRILLAMAN Sr. I was borned [sic] in 1870. [I think the 3rd number was a "7". It was oddly formed and not like other "7"s in the letter.]
You asked about President Benjamin HARRISON's people. I met his niece about 40 years ago, but I cannot think of her name. She is dead now, her son lived in California. Write to Mrs. Larkin D. TURNER of Snow Creek, Va., Franklin County, and she will tell you who they were. This old lady had her aunt's wedding dress. White raised flowered satin with a few drops of champain [sic] spilt down the front that was served in Paris at banquet given in their honor. This old lady also had a crazy quilt made from her sons ties. It was certainly a beauty. She visited here every year as long as she lived. You asked about some MITCHELLS. Mrs Claude MITCHELL ALLEN -- Hillsborro, Va. Mrs. George MITCHELL, Martinsville, Virginia, Henry County Mr. James MITCHELL Whitmill, Va. Pittsylvania County.
I hope that the information I've given will be of service to you. I'd be so glad to have you and Mrs. DAVIS to visit me this summer. I feel sure we three would trace the family. I will list everything the way it was sent to me. The record of their servants is also in the old bible. Here's hoping to hear from you again.
