Hi, Clarence,
I come from the Tennessee branch of the family.Briefly, in the late 1790s Ephriam Prigmore floated down the Tennessee River and stopped at Nickajack Cave (now west of chattenooga). He walked west and north up the Sequatche River a few miles and established a farm.He "walked off" and then bought 900 acres from the new state of Tennessee for $ 1 per acre. Some 300 acres of that land is still in the family.
My father, Harry, son of Peyton, who was the son of Ephriam L. Prigmore, who was the grandson of the first Ephriam.
The earliest record I have of Prigmore's in the U.S. ( having come from England probably) is the that there was a dense cedar swamp where three Prigmore (Pridmore) brothers were squatters and farmed in 1680.That land is now known as New Brunswick, NJ.(The Prigmores always had a knack for leaving too soon :-) ).The next record I have is of a John Prigmore operating a stage stop halfway between NY and Philadelphia. It was known as Cranberry Junction. That was about 1750.It is still there. My wife and I ate lunch there a few years ago.
Evidently John sold out (too soon, again), and migrated west, then down the Alleghanys into Virginia and Eastern Tennessee.Eventually Ephriam made is trip down the River to Nickajack Cave (which is now under water, thanks to the Corp of Engineers). There's a lot of genealogy available. Each 4th of July an International Prigmore Reunion is held in the old Oak Grove Church, near the Prigmore Family homestead in the Sequatche River Valley of TN.More details of you are interested.
My Dad's Dad migrated in a wagon from the Prigmore homestead to Butler County, Kansas in 1899.Nearly a thousand miles in a wagon!.I was born SE of Augusta, KS, in 1923.I now live near Atlanta, GA.
My first book is "The Joy of Living", available through Amazon.com or Barnes & Noble. My second book is an audio book, narrated by myself, of some of the stories in the printed book. The book is of stories of my life from wrestling mountain lions in Utah to flying a light plane from Miami to Johannasburg.
Let's hear from you.
Rick Prigmore
