Hi Nora,
I am not sure if our families are connected, but I have an Abraham Priestley, born abt. 1770, Bradford, Yorkshire, England; his wife was Mary Driver, born abt. 1774, Bradford,Yorkshire,England. Abraham and Mary married on August 2, 1795, B.Y.E. Martha, their daughter, was christened on October 30, 1803, B.Y.E. and married William Holliday, on December 2, 1818, B.Y.E. At some point Martha and William moved to Tasmania, Australia, as their daughter, Mary Holliday was born on June 12, 1831, in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia. Mary went on to marry Edward Taylor, born 1815, who lived in London, England, and was transported for supposedly stealing a handkerchief. (Edward and a friend were arrested for the theft, but they did not have it in their possession! A young lad produced it, but he received no punishment and the two men received 7 years for the dubious crime.) Her mother deceased; Mary was 12 at the time of her marriage, her father so immersed in his grief it is believed it may have been a marriage of convenience; for her care and well being.
If any of this sounds familiar please email me.
Warm regards,
Shari.
