Frank (Franklin) Priddy was my great grandfather. My grandfather (James Madison) and my father (Otis Vernon) occasionally talked of Frank when I was much younger. My dad said the Frank was a school teacher for some period of time. According to Dad, Frank disappeared during a trip to St. Louis to attend a teachers convention. He apparently arrived in St. Louis and checked into the hotel where he was staying but wasn't seen after that. The assumption was that he may have been robbed and murdered while in St. Louis. Another theory was that he ran off with a younger woman. Supposedly, a younger woman from the area where Frank lived (in Ky I believe) was allegedly a witch and had cast a spell over Frank and had enticed him to run away with her. Good story, but I can more easily believe that he was robbed and killed in St. Louis. Mourning Priddy subsequently remarried at some later date to a Dennis White (not sure of this name). This marriage led to a land ownership dispute between Dennis and Wiley Priddy (my grandfathers older brother and one of my dad's uncles). The ultimate result of this dispute was that Wiley was poisoned by Dennis White, who claimed that he had mistakenly given Wiley poison rather than the powder that was normally taken for a headache. I can't substantiate any of this, but I'm certain my dad wouldn't have manufactured any part of what he told me. Kind of interesting stuff. Hope it's helpful.
