Richard Price, son of Samuel (Mordecai, Mordecai, Thomas, Thomas)
Concerning the family of Samuel Price (Mordecai, Mordecai, Thomas, Thomas) who married Anne Moore and 2nd Mary Parrish.
I am descended from Richard Price who died 1 December 1857 in Jackson County, Ohio. He is often connected to be the son of Samuel Price.I have some problems with this.
Some descendants of the Ohio Richard’s daughters Lydia Price Kirkendall and Anna Price Huntley have accepted this and did not appreciate my questioning of the discrepancies.I have wondered what others who know that they have descended form this family might have to say.
My first problem is that there are records that show two sons named Richard, who both lived to adulthood: Richard reported to be born 27 Feb 1777 (the one who died in Ohio on 1 Dec 1857) and the Richard born 5 Nov 1777 (the one who died on 23 Nov 1851 in Baltimore as did all of his siblings.)
The next problem is a discrepancy of dates; first, that the two Richard’s are about nine months apart in these reported records and second, that the firthdate for the Richard wo died in Ohio does not fit with the age at death on the gravestone in Ohio. The grave marker is difficult to read now but all of my family present last Fall felt that it read:Died 1 December 1857; Aged 70 years, 9 months, 4 days. That makes the birth date to calculate to February 27, 1787.This is also how the marker was reported in the Jackson County, Ohio cemetery records which were read some unknown years ago.
The 1850 Census for Richard also puts his age so that he would have been born in 1787.
Now Anne Moore died in 1785 and Samuel did not marry Mary Parsons until 5 Dec 1787.Mary could still have been the Mother of this Richard but not Ann.I see no records that list children born to Mary Parrish.
There is a reference in the book “History of the Hanging Rock Iron Region” published in 1916 to the Ohio Richard being a business man coming from Baltimore so I accept that he was from Baltimore. Also, another descendant has a letter written by one of Richard’s sons, William H. Price, that tells his niece that Richard was born in Maryland on the Chesapeake Bay near Baltimore.
Another clue in this letter is the statement that he had an Uncle named James Cox who married one of his father’s (Richard Price’s) sisters.Does anyone know a female Price born anywhere around the 1750’s to 1770’s who married a James Cox?
In this letter, William H. Price, tells his niece that his father’s name was Richard and his grandfather’s name was Gilbert.Richard’s son James H. Price, named a son Gilbert as well.
I could accept that he could really be of this family but from another line?Or the son of Mary Parrish?Help me if you can, Please.
I did contact the woman who contributed this information to the “Boyd Trees” on Rootsweb: http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=boyd-trees&id=I027739http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=boyd-trees&id=I027739.She replied that she was afraid that she and her paid researcher some years ago had started it all. There were two different places where both Richard’s had been listed by the researcher and on one record, the Richard in Ohio had been crossed out.She submitted the other record. She also said that it has been picked up by the Mormon FamilySearch.com site since then (which it has.)
One more clue to the identity of my Richard Price is his middle name which was recorded on one of his Ohio land Patients. He was Richard Hammond Price.
Marriage records from Caroline County, Maryland have his marriage to Isabella Austin on 19 August 1806.
From my research and the records of other descendants I have the children of Richard Hammond Price and Isabella Austin to be at least:
Lydia Margaret Price Kirkendall born 27 April 1807.She is buried next to her father.
Rebecca Price Long born 06 December 1812.
William H. Price born 02 November 1815. He is buried near his father.
Anna Mercer Price Huntley born in 1817.She is buried in Mt Tabor Cemetery, Vinton County,OH.
James H. Price born 1819, is buried next to his father.
Can anyone help me to figure this out?I would like to prove or disprove this connection to Samuel Price as I see many more people reporting this information now than when I started looking.
Thanks for any help that you can give to me.
