David, for some strange reason I cannot get e-mail to go through to you.I tried to send this today:
I have found another candidate to be Henry's dad.Thomas Price appears on the 1830 Rhea County census.Jacob Price is also on the 1830 Rhea County census.
Both have at least one boy under 5 in the household.(Meigs County was formed partly from Rhea County in 1836.)
I cannot locate Thomas Price on the 1840 Meigs, Rhea, Hamilton, or McMinn county census.I did find an entry for the Thomas Price Heirs on the tax lists for 1839, 1840, 1841 & 1842, Meigs County. His tax district is the same as Jacob, James T., Charles, and John C. Price.
Who is this Thomas Price?Looks like he was the same person listed on the 1830 census of Rhea County. When Meigs County was created in 1836, his property may have fallen into the boundaries of the new county.Apparently, he died shortly before 1839.In 1830, his household included:
1 boy under 51 girl under 5
1 boy 5 - 102 girls 10 - 15
2 boys 10 - 151 female40 - 50
2 boys 15 - 201 female80 - 90
1 man 50 - 60
1 man 70 - 80
Could this Thomas Price be the son of Mordecai Price & Rachel Boren? He sure fits the picture to be Henry's dad because it looks like he had a boy the right age in 1830 and was dead before the 1840 census was taken.Guess I need to see if there are any estate records for Thomas Price.
Now for Jacob Price. He is listed in the 20 - 30 age group in 1830 (Rhea) and he has 3 boys under 5 and 3 boys 5 - 10.His wife is in the 20 - 30 age group also. When I looked at the 1840 Meigs census, I found a Jacob Price, but the age group is wrong. He should be in the 30 - 40 age group, but is in the 50 - 60 age group instead. But he has 3 boys in the 10 - 15 age group, and 3 boys in the 15 - 20 age group. His wife is in the 40 - 50 age group. It looks like this is the same Jacob, but the wrong box was checked for his age in one of the censuses. There is the only Jacob Price whose name appears on the Meigs tax lists for 1839 - 1858.
If Dorsey Price had had a boy under 5 in 1830, that child would have been listed in the 10 -15 age group in 1840.Well, Dorsey didn't have a boy under 5 in 1830, but he did have a boy in the 10 - 15 age group in 1840 (Henry Price would have been around 11 in 1840).Dorsey's household in 1840 would have been a madhouse, as there were 15 children under the age of 15!
Let me know what you think.
