Documentation from Baltimore County Court Records establishes beyond doubt (for me) that Thomas Pribble was born in England and emigrated to Baltimore County Maryland around August/September 1684. This documentation is in the form of hisArticles of Indenture, which were filed with the Baltimore County Court, probably after he arrived, although there is no filing date. The papers were signed on 20 August 1684 in Wapping, Middlesex, England (Wapping is a locality in the Port of London). Thomas name is spelled 'Pribble' in this document, although he made only his mark to sign it. He is referred to as "21 or over", meaning he was born, in England, before 20 August 1663, although he could have been much older. Whoever listed him as being born in Maryland did not have knowledge of, or misinterpreted, this document. Records of his children's and grandchildren's births were made in St. George's parish, Baltimore Cty Md. There may be a record from St. George's parish of his marriage to Mary (Bucknell?), however, I have never seen it cited. Harford County, where St. George's parish was located, was not set off from Baltimore County until 1775. Thomas Pribble never lived in "Harford" County, although his son John (Stephen) was still alive there, according to a 1775 census. Birth, death and marriage records of Thomas' children and grandchildren are somewhat conflicting, but do exist. If you would like more detail on them, please contact me at [email protected].
