Interested in discussing the ancestry of Jeannette/Jeanne PREVOST who lived in the Attakapas District (St Martin Parish) in the late 1700's. Based on SWLR entries, it appears she is the daughter of Joseph Nicolas PREVOST and Marie Francoise QUEBEDEAUX.
Jeannette/Jeanne PREVOST gave birth to at least two (illegitimate?) children, apparantly by different fathers:
PREVOST, Marie Louise (Jeanne PREVOT) bt. 18 July 1778 Spons: Augustin FLAMANT & Demelle Louise DECLOUET. Fr. Louis MARIE (SM Ch.: v.1, p.61)
PREVOST, Marie Louise (Jeanne PROVOT) m. 28 Jan. 1799 Francois GAUTIER - of Monauban, Province of Languedoc, France (Antoine & Marguerite SIMIEN) Wits: Nicolas PREVOT - tio de la desposada [bride's uncle], Pierre Joseph NEZAT, Joseph LATIOLAIS, Francois BEGUENARD. Fr. Michel Bernard BARRIERE (SM Ch.: v.4, #168)
- Marie Louise PREVOST later turns up as Elise/Lise GREVEMBERG for entries related to the marriages or deaths of the 5 children she and Francois GAUTHIER produced. Of note is the identification of Nicolas PREVOST as the uncle of Marie Louise at her marriage (Jeanne's brother).
LOUIS - (natural son of Jeannette & Joseph COLETTE) bt. 28 March 1787 at age 4 yrs. Spons: Alexandre Efbeh(?) Felix Philippe Du CLOSLANGE & Felicite PREVOST - inhabitant of this parish. Fr. GEFFROTIN (SM Ch.: v.3, #172)
COLETTE, Louis (Joseph & Jeannette PREVOST) m. 17 Dec. 1846 Marie Odile QUEBEDEAU (SM Ct. Hse.: Mar. Bk. 1, #55)
- Louis is later identified as the uncle of Elise/Lise GREVEMBERG's children at the marriage of one of her daughters, and Elise's son dies at the home of Louis COLETTE. Of note is the identification of Felicite PREVOST as a sponsor at Louis' baptism in 1787. Nicolas PREVOST had a sister named Felicite.
I'd appreciate any ideas or additional information on this, however I do believe that Joseph Nicolas PREVOST and Marie Francoise QUEBEDEAUX may have had a previously unlinked daughter.
