Hal...
I have stared and stared at the Van Zandt marriages and the 1900 and 1910 census reports of William A. Prestridge/Prestidge and think I have come up with a possible answer to the strange marriage records in Van Zandt for William.....
I havestudied this William A. Prestridge stuff till I am blue in the face and still am so very confused........ See if you think I am nuts...
I believe I have no problem with his marriage to Susan Wright and their child Ida.... I put Susan as dying about July 5, 1894 about when Ida was born....... No problem with that and I am satisfied.... (grin)
The 1900 census says his wife is Jane born in Ga Feb 1855
the 1910 census says his wife is Martha J. b 1855 Ga
OK.... I agree... one wife.... same Martha Jane.
William gets married in Van Zandt July 5 1896 to Martha Jane Moseley
William gets married four days later to Jane Wallace. July 9, 1896......
I think this is the same person.
This is all speculation on my part but here goes....
If he married her under the name Moseley (her maiden name) it would have been illegal.
If she had been married before to a Wallace her legal name would have been Martha Jane Wallace.
Sooo they simply get married again under her legal name of Wallace........
Martha Jane is 9 1/2 years older than William A. Prestridge.
Does this make sense to you??????
Now... the 1900 census confirms her Wallace marriage as a stepson Martin L. Wallace is living with William and Jane born in Jan 1864.
I agree this Martin is the son of her first husband .....who is obviously dead.....
but can he possibly be Martha Jane's son????????
Martha Jane Moseley Wallace was born Feb 1855
Martin was born Jan 1864
NINE years old??????
There is no Van Zandt Wallace-Moseley marriage..
ok....her first husband was a pedophile and somebody shot him.....deader'n a doornail....(grin)....
Comments please...
