Unfortunately, that particular name and area will be a problem for you. "Thomas" was at that time in that area a family name for eldest sons (which should tell you who was the first-born twin) and had been for at least 100 years. My own family is from - and still in - the area and the graveyards are full of Thomas Prestons!

However, I do have copies of all the Downham and local parish records and will see if I can get hold of any details for you. If I do, I will post them here and on my own site - though the latter may take a while.
