Hi Geraldine,
One George M. Ward has a Jonathan Preston, s. Jonathan and Prudence (Barber) Preston; m. Polly Hedding included in his WorldConnect tree, "Ward-Hupp." He reports that Jonathan was born about 1777 at New Canaan, NY.
You might check his tree and write to him to learn about the sources he used in his compilation. There might be other compilers who have posted to WorldConnect that have similar or more information about your Jonathan.
