Hello Dick, I was surprised to see a response to my message about Dennis after so much time! Thank you so much for taking the time to respond! I appreciate all of the information that you shared about your family. I can help you more with your line. I'm hopeful that some of the information that your line of the family may remember may help us even further.
Your g grandfather, Samuel Hampton Presson was the oldest child of John Bunyan Presson and Elizabeth Emaline Mullis Presson. He was born on September 8, 1947 in Union County, NC. The second child of this couple was a daughter, Sarah Ellen, and she was born around 1850, althought I have no exact date. Their 3rd child was my g grandfather, John Daniel Presson, born September 10, 1852, and their 4th child was also a son, James Ashley Presson (he went by Ashley), born June 22, 1855.
John Bunyan Presson was the youngest son of Samuel Presson and Sarah Morton. He too was born in NC (Anson Co, as their property was in the portion that became Union Co at a later date). John Bunyan died on November 10, 1855, shortly after the birth of James Ashley. Elizabeth Emaline (she went by Emaline) married again on December 18, 1856. She married a man who was a first cousin to John Bunyan Presson, a James Samuel Presson. Together they had one child, Addie or Eddy, apparently a girl, in 1860; however, she is believed to have died as an infant. In 1860, James and Elizabeth (along with all of the children) moved to Benton Co, TN, where many of their relatives had moved earlier. Sometime before the civil war began, James and Elizabeth moved again, to Union CO, IL ( the very northern portion, where Williamson and Jackson counties come together). James was a Union soldier during the civil war. He served with the 13th IL Cavalry and he died during the war (from illness, in Oct 1864). Elizabeth later married a veteran of the war named Calvin Craig. This man was a "rogue" and she left him after a few years, but I have never been able to find any record of divorce. I do not know what happened to Elizabeth Emeline after that. She was still alive in 1878, but that is as much as I know for now. My g grandfather returned to Benton Co, TN, where he married and his children were raised. I know that Samuel Hampton lived in Williamson Co, IL for a time, but moved to McLean Co, KY at some point. The other brother, James Ashley also married in Williamson Co, IL, but he later moved to the Paragould Arkansas area (Marmaduke, Arkansas), where he and his family lived. I have pieced together bits and pieces of these brothers and what became of them and their children, but the data I have is very incomplete .I do not know what became of Sarah Ellen. My greatest desire is to find when Elizabeth Emeline died and where she is buried (but I have exhausted all of the leads I have at this point). I would love to learn more about your line of our family and I am happy to answer any questions that I can and to share any data that I have with you! Patricia Presson Carlson, Nashville, TN
