Prescott DNA Project at Family Tree DNA: Status as of October 15, 2009:

We have two YDNA-67 kits returned to FTDNA, one from a descendant of James of New Hampshire and one from a descendant of John of Virginia. The James of NH kit analysis has been completed; the John of Va kit is scheduled for analysis completion by October 31, 2009. We also have a YDNA-37 kit on a John of Va descendant with completed analysis that is planned to be upgraded to YDNA-67 soon. We have one descendant of John of Massachusetts who plans to order his kit before December 31, 2009. We have one other descendant of John of Va who is planning to order a kit soon. There is also one kit in process for a person who may be a descendant of John of Va. This 12 marker kit had been ordered from the Genographic Project prior to the activation of the Prescott DNA Project at FTDNA. The results will be transferred to FTDNA and then this kit will be upgraded to YDNA-67.

We have two more YDNA-67 kits in the possession of the testing individuals, both descendants of John of Va. So by mid-December we could have eight kits in the mix. That would include one from James of NH; five from John of Va; one from John of Mass, and one who hopes to discover their connection.

We need at least three YDNA-67 analysis' from each of the above family groups. In addition we need additional analysis' from all of the John of Va subgroups (at least three from each subgroup) except the Willoughby and Mary Weeks Prescott family that has already reached three. And, we need some folks still in the UK; and folks in Australia and New Zealand to be tested. Of the eight above, I only know four of them personally. So four of them have (or will have) executed their tests within the vagueness of Internet based relationships. As we move forward, more will necessarily have to come from the latter group. That means they have to become comfortable with the concept and execute an order often without personal family persuasion in play. So they need confidence that the Prescott DNA Project is going to succeed …. that is, will gather enough completed tests for the data to become meaningful. The value is in the assembled results, not in any individual test. Eight is on the brink of establishing assurance of success.

We also have accumulated $81 in our Prescott General Fund on deposit at FTDNA. We need for this fund to become sufficient to pay, or help pay, for willing candidates that cannot afford the $243 ($239 plus shipping) currently involved for YDNA-67. To insure you get the group rate of $239, notify me of your participation intent and I will send you a “join” email that will include the discounted price. Interested parties who are not personally candidates for testing can best help by donating to the Prescott General Fund at FTDNA. You can do that online at http://www.familytreedna.com/contribution.html ; or alternatively, you can send your donation to me and I will make the deposit to the Prescott General Fund on your behalf. Checks should be made payable to C. Eugene Prescott, noted for the Prescott DNA Project General Fund, and mailed to Gene Prescott, PO Box 20037, Greenville, NC, 27858.

Having twelve kits in the mix by mid-December would be an excellent Christmas present to Prescotts everywhere!
