Mary Prentiss, b. NC abt. 1831; married William Edward "Nead" Freeman after 1850 in Talladega Co., AL. I've never had any luck finding Mary's parents. Going through the 1830-1870 AL census,I found Prentice, Prentiss and Prentis in Shelby, Blount and Bibb Counties which are all near Talladega. In the 1850 census, I found Mariah Prentice (age 40, born in TN) in Blount Co., AL as head of household. She had a 19-yr-old dau., Mary, who was the ONLY Mary I've found in any nearby county of the correct age. In 1870, Mariah is listed as Mariah Prentis, and living in Shelby Co.

Does anyone know which of the Prentice/Prentiss/Prentis men was Mariah's husband, or anything else about her or her daughter Mary? My best guess is that Mariah was the wife of John Prentis listed in the 1840 Blount Co., AL Census.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.
