Hi Andrea:
I saw your query in the Prendergast Forum website regarding the bar owned by Edmond T. Prendergast. While I have no direct kknowledge of the 'two way inn" or Edmond or his mother Bridie, I do have in my own family line a similar story that might be remotely connected to yours.
My great-great grandfather was Edwin Prendergast who was married to Mary Ann Goldsmith in the early 1830s in Brooklyn.Mary Ann's father was Joseph and she had a brother William.Starting in the 1850s ( think), the Bklyn city directories showed the Goldsmiths as proprietors of a saloon named something like the "Bull's Head."
When I was a boy here in Brooklyn, I sometimes took a trolley that would pass the corner of Flatbush and Seventh Avenues, and there was an establishment called Prendergast Bar & Grill.More than once I asked my family if we were related to the bar owners and they said no, but I was never convinced. My grandfather, Harry was one of several children, mostly boys, and the Goldsmiths mentioned above would have been their grandfather and uncle, respectively. It is possible that the bar-owning tradition came to them in that way.Since my g'father Harry didn't have much to do with his brothers, it is possible that on of them or their sons were the owners of the Prendergast B&G.Some of the brothers were Eddie, William, Fred and Joseph.
I doubt if there's anything here that will help you, but I thought I'd send it along just in case.In your query you did not say what part of the New York area the bar was located in.
Best regards, and good luck in your research.
Tom Prendergast
