Greetings, Cousin Betsy! I tried several times over the course of a few years to get Genforum to start a 'Precht' board -- it looks like it has finally started to pay off. I, unfortunately, do not have any further information on Wilhelm's ancestry. The town name I mentioned came from two good sources and one (a letter pertaining to Wilhelm’s in-laws) of unknown quality. I have never done any serious overseas digging on this or any other of my lines. I did buy a book last year (still unread) on doing German research -- I intend to pursue this sometime, but have not taken any steps yet… My grandmother had been in contact with a Del Precht of Decatur, IL in 1984 (which I find rather odd, since she says genealogy is a big waste of time). I have a copy of his report on the descendants of Eduard Precht, Wilhelm's son, but it does not provide any further ancestral information. I wrote to a Precht still listed in Decatur two or three years ago, but never got a response. My grandmother also has said we were related to half the state of Minnesota. She had mentioned that there was a distant female cousin with whom she occasionally corresponded that owned the local newspaper in the town of Hector. I've never tried to follow up on that lead. Interestingly, I also recall that a portion of the Precht family was murdered in an indian massacre in MN. My grandmother was told the story as a little girl and at 91 she still finds it painful to talk about. I also heard a rumor from my father last year that a family bible might be in the archives of Concordia University. I contacted them, but they were unable to find any mention of it. Their administration building was completely destroyed by fire in 1913, so if they did have it, it is long gone. Sorry I can't be of more help on the Germany connection. Please let me know if you have any further information to share. Greg Notify Administrator about this message?
