Ellen: The Commodore and his wife, Mary (Deering) Preble had only one child, Edward Deering Preble (1806-1846), and 4 grandchildren: Mary (1834-1835), Mary A. (b. 10 Sep 1835), Alice (b. 26 Feb 1839), and Lt Cmdr Edward Earnest Preble (1842-1881) who had no children. So your gggmother born in 1852 with a maiden name of Preble could not be descended from the Commodore.
