Question Regarding Grandparents Listed in PR Birth Records
Posted by: Das Riv (ID *****7024) Date: November 11, 2012 at 16:05:38

Hi everyone. Was wondering if someone can help. In an 1890 birth record for a family member in Santa Isabel, PR, a grandparent was referred to as "Tomasa (Aponte) digo Mercado". In all other records, this grandparent was always referred to as Tomasa Mercado. Her husband's last names are not Aponte or Mercado. Does anyone know what this style of entry means? Does this suggest that her last name was really Aponte and not Mercado?

Thanks for your advice.
