I'm researching my family history. If you have information to contribute to my research please contact me thru this message board.
I am the last of 14 children born to Justina M Zapata Rodriguez and Jose M Padilla Rodriguez (Chate), both born in Cabo Rojo. She in 1907 and he in the late 1800's.
My mother's parents were Felipa (Fela) Rodriguez from Cabo Rojo and Juan Zapata who was born in Lajas. They had four children, my mother being the oldest. She had a brother born in 1914 and twin sisters who died at the age of 3 1/2.
My uncle's name was Ramon Zapata.
My grandfather Juan died in 1931. He had three sisters named
Juanita, Paula and Catalina ( who died in childbirth ).
My grandmother remarried to Esteban Ortiz.
My great grandparents on my mother's side were Martin Rodriguez and Petrona Rivera. Besides my grandmother Fela
they had six other children. Their names were Justo,Pablo Liberado(Lato),Victorio,Maria,Ana(Anita) and another brother
who at the age of 12 left Puerto Rico with his Godfather.
They went to Santo Domingo but were never heard of since.
On my father's side his father was Jose(Pepe) Padilla. He was called Papita by his grandchildren. My paternal grandmother was Marcolina Rodriguez Acosta (?) who died while my father was young. My grandfather Pepe remarried to
Juanita Arroyo who at the time was a well known mid-wife
(partera/comadrona) in Cabo Rojo. She had a son named Arcadio. She may be related to the Camachos from El Combate in Cabo Rojo.
My family mostly comes from the areas of El Combate, La Costa, El Corozo, Pole Ojea in Cabo Rojo. I was the only one in my immediate family born in Boqueron.
My brothers and sisters are as follow: Patria, Cruz(died 1997), Carmen, Ruben, Amilcar( died at the age of 16 or 17 yrs. old ), Luis Angel, Selenia (Nelly), Josefa, Edgar, Sara
and Ramon Heriberto(Eddie). There were two more sons born who died as infants.
