Jim,

Last July 1999, my wife and I visited the Library in Romney, WV and found a book by
Donald Owen Wisssinger called "Pownall Genealogy". In the book it mentions 2 Joshua Pownell's. One I believe one listed as being married and the other no listing of marriage.

One of the Josahua's definitely married Mary "Polly" Peters and died in 1828. His will was proved in 1828. We have the named children you mentioned in this family. It is speculated that this Joshua is buried in the Peters-Bliss(now Haskins) cemetery. I have a copy of his will which John Peters and James Vandevert attested to under oath. I want to find the gravesite on this Mary "Polly" (Peters) Pownell. Can you help me out here on this!!

The Joshua who was listed as being married was born 1770 and so I speculated that this Joshua is not yours. I do think this Joshua is the one listed on this web page:

Joshua Pownall
Nancy Carter-------------------------------15 June 1837

You may want to ask this Lady when her Joshua was born? I so far have received no response.

Hence, we are speculating that your Joshua was born 1781(son of George and Anna (Johnson) Pownell and not in 1770. Your Joshua died 1827. We could be wrong on this because this Lady at the above web page said the book had lots of errors and our speculalation is based on his research. Although in her web pages, the Lady raves about the work he has done!!

John
