Hi,

I'm looking for my maternal grandfather. John Donovan Powis.

He married my Grandmother Veronica (Vera) Armitage in Ashton-under-Lyne, UK. They had one child, my Mum, called Edith Veronica. John left (for understandable reasons) when my Mum was 5 yrs old we think.

My Mums aunt believes he may have gone to live in Canada. Apparently he was/is a very gentle man with lots of tatoos on his arms.

I have no details of his family as we believe he was adopted (from where he got the name Powis).

My Mum has asked me to trace John - if only to "find out he had a happy life". Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've tried the UK Army records but without a death cert or proof of next of kin they will not release information.

I have got his marrage certificate but not on me at the moment (I will post more details).

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
