I am trying to find out about my family, and my great-grandmother was very tight-lipped when she was alive. She always insisted that we were Americans and where in Europe we came from was irrelevant in 1968 and later. According to my grandmother, her mother-in-law was very Scottish.
Any way, the best I have been able to find is my grandfather's grandfather Charles Powers born in Fillmore IA. His son was my great-grandfather Harley. Harley had two sons, Donald and my grandfather, Dallas. Dallas was born on 1 Aug 1920, and he passed away in June 2003 in Blooming Prairie MN. Dallas married Olga Martin. Dallas' sons are still alive, Larry b.1946 and Roger (my father) b.16 May 1950. My family spent most of their time in Dodge and Mower counties in Minnesota. My uncle lives in Hennepin County and my father lives in Steele County. Girls are rare in my family.
I have no information about who Charles' parents were and from where in Europe our family came from. I have long suspected that we were Irish, and have recently began to wonder if my father was named after an older Powers, possibly Charles' father. I have asked him why he is named "Roger" and his response is that he does not know. Your help is appreciated.
