A biography/family history of William Powers, Bainville banker, is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 3, pages 905 & 906. William Powers was born, 7 Nov 1883, son of Richard and Bridget (Cassin) Powers. Richard was born 1850 in Lake Geneva, WI; Bridget Cassin was born, 1852, County Kilkenny, IR. Children of Richard and Bridget: Mrs. Oliver T. Cody (Chicago); May K. (Lake Geneva, WI); William (Bainville, MT); Edward S. (Medicine Lake, MT); John D. (farmer at Havana, ND). William grew up and attended school in Lake Geneva, WI. He at once began banking, spending five years learning the business with the First National Bank of Geneva. He located to Bainville, MT, Dec 1908, and took over the Bank of Bainville. In 1909 he organized the Farmers Bank of Bainville with James Powers as president, Richard Powers as vice president, William as cashier, Edward S. Powers as assistant cashier. In Jul 1911, it was incorporated as Farmers State Bank. William was also president of the First State Bank of Medicine Lake, his brother, Edward, was cashier, and his uncle vice president. William proved up a homestead near Bainville devoted to farming and stock growing. He was appointed US Commissioner at Bainville. On 3 Oct 1917, Libby, MT, William married Miss Corinne DeMers, born 13 Dec 1892, St. Paul, MN, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Philip DeMers. Demers children: Margaret O., James A. I am not related.
