Lisa,
I have been trying to catch up on the messages myself.
There is a family album in Homestead.I think it went through Hurricane
Andrew O.K. (Buddy) Luther Roberts has it.
I will try and seeif thereisany pictures of Mary (Molly) Drawdy around. .I believe Effie, my grandmother did say thatMary's first child was born before she married Henry Tanner. Shesaid Henry was a mean man.
After Effies Mother died ,she had toraise all her brothers and sisters,As she was the oldest.
I remember seeingHenry Tanner when I was a teenager at a reunionaround the old home place near Orlando. We had gone up to visit . I know I was not allowed to wear lipstick around him .
*****My E Mail has changed [email protected]
Good to be back on again.
I am living on Orange Lake most of the time now.
South of Micanopy where all of Effies husband's family(Loren's Father )
were born. I dig for arrowheads and artifacts
I am really into this Indian thing. I am doing all my investigating myself. TheHistory of Alabama , "The Creek Cronicles of
Indian and Friends" have been a lot of help. I go to book sales and try and find all the old History books that I can from the days of the beginning of the discovery of Florida down to now. I plan to write my book as soon as I can. It will have quotes where I get my material from. I live right across the lake from Marjorie Rawlings, the writer of "The Yearling, and "Cross Creek". It's so nice here.Right now the lake has been low and zillions of alligators ,turtles, wild turkeys and ducks are everywhere. In the early morning a deer can be seen getting a drink and I find a possum in my garbage can all the time. I try to just enjoy the land like I know the Indians did. I have found broken pieces of pottery. I plan to do some more digging as soon as some of the water snakes leave. I have room here for a "Pow Wow" and I will have one when I get the place all fixed up. We are trying to find a way to clean more land but the rain has held us up.
I have room for campers, some cabins,12 boats. And when the water returns a lot of Bass fishermen. It's another world from what I have been living the last 40 years. My Aunt Charlotte Roberts Braxton (85) years. is here in one of the cabins. She was born in Flamingo (Everglades National Park). She and her brotherare the last two people I know of that were born there.
Keepin touchand stay well.
Betty
