hello Joanna
I have just completed my research of the Pow family in East Lothian. The name had no E at the end and still hasn't.My husband is James Pow and I have traced his direct line in the Powfamily back to the 1600's in the East Lothian area of Scotland which is close to Edinburgh. The family were concentrated in Gladsmuir, Haddington and Tranent which are all areas in East Lothian.
My last entry is for George Pow born about 1631 in Haddington. His wife was Issabell Broune who was also born in Haddington. The hard part about tracing your direct line is that most of the male members of the family were called after each other through the generations and there is so many of them on the geneology sites. The family names were and still are in our familyJames, George, William and Robert, so the important part for you will be to choose the correct George which is your direct line.In my research I have't come across a Joanna Pow or Issabel Burns but a good site to try is www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk or www.scotsorigins.com.
Parts of the family moved into the Stirling and Lanarkshire areas of Scotland.
Hope this may be of some help to you.
Diane
