THE BECKETT/BALL/POULTON MYSTERY
Hello!
Looking for ANY info on my late, tight-lipped grandfather:
He was supposedly born Arthur Beckett on Jan. 27, 1891 in sub-district Lancaster, County of Lancaster, U.K.His mother was Edith Emily Ball (a domestic servant inNottingham), and his father was __?__Beckett.His father died young, and Edith married Arthur Poulton, a shoe-maker in Lancaster.Young Arthur Beckett took the elder Arthur's surname of Poulton.
On Oct. 5, 1916 he married Ivy Winnifred Woods, b. Nov. 22, 1894, at Church of England St. Michael's in Folkestone. I believe they lived in the Portsmouth area for a time.Their first three children were born in England (the first in Lancashire, the second in Bognor district of West Hampnett, the third [my mom] in Copnor, county of Portsmouth).(I hope I have these districts listed correctly, but I probably don't.)
In 1918 he immigrated to Canada.
He may have been illegitimate, and also it is unclear as to whether or not he was legally adopted by Mr. Poulton, so these have made tracing very difficult. If anyone has ANYTHING on my mysterious grandfather, PLEASE let me know.Thank-you!
