William Poulter of Culpeper Co., Va. had four children. The two daughters (m. Kelly and Sims) and son John moved from Culpeper to Mercer Co., Ky. Their brother William went from Culpeper to Jefferson Co., Ky. As I recall, they were the only Poulters in the whole US census of 1790. There was a family in Massachusetts that died out very early in the male line. Thus, I think I can safely say that there were no Poulters in North Carolina. William Poulter, the father of the four above, received a grant of land for service in the French and Indian War. Since there appear to be no Poulters in Va. in the years immediately before that, I'm assuming that he was an English soldier who came over to fight in that war and decided to stay.
