Just wanted to let you know you will have problems trying to follow a surname prior to your relatives arrival in the U.S. It appears that in Denmark, children took their surname from their father's first name hence I have a string in my family tree In Dnemark that looks like this:
Thomas Sorensen, father of Soren Thomasen, father of Thomas Sorensen. Another branch has Ane Marie Rasmussen, daughter of Rasmus Sorensen and Kirstine Laursen. The surnames didn't follow family lines until they hit America.
Also, be sure to check alternate spellings: I am Thea Paulson, father Philip Paulson born U.S., grandfather Jens Poulsen (later Jim Paulson, then Paulsen) born Brazil 1888 immigrated to U.S. with parents in 1891, parent Niels Jensen Poulsen born 1863 Trustrup Denmark.
