Potter-Moon-Gallup ties early 1800s upstate NY

In Sept 1850 several children of Curtis Gallup & Susan Moon of Warren Co, NY show on census records for Granville, NY living with elderly Nathaniel Potter & family (& 1 Gallup dau is with Nate's neighbor/son John Potter.) The timing matches exactly when widow Susan (Moon) Gallup subsequently married Noah Pasco of Warren Co, NY. Susan also lost a child by Noah at birth during this year or shortly following.

Nathaniel Potter in 1850 is 82, b. MA. so why the Potters of Granville NY are watching Warren Co. widow Susan's 5 Gallup children is a puzzle. [A possibility - Mrs. John Gallup, first name Caroline, and age 25 in 1850, perhaps is a previously unidentified younger sister of Susan?]

By Oct 1850 the Gallup children (Susan, Phebe, Edgar, Loretta, Orson) are listed by census takers back at Athol/Thurman, NY with mom Susan Pasco & g'mom Phebe Moon. Phebe is the widow of Stephen Moon of Athol/Thurman and indicates on various census she was b. abt 1782 in NY or RI. So she too seems unlikely related to the Potters of Granville.

Phebe & husband Stephen Moon were at Athol, NY as early as 1808. In addition to dau Susan they had a son Alexander b. abt 1811 and 3 or 4 unnamed daughters. Stephen likely was the son of Richard Moon who is at Athol NY in 1800. Stephen's place of birth undetermined but suspected to be Washington Co, NY, abt 1780, in or near Hartford. Richard Moon POSSIBLY Rev. War vet. who served in the 8th Reg't Albany Militia. Stephen Moon d. bef 1840 at Athol. A Richard Moon appears at Hartford, NY in 1810 but unclear if this is same as Athol, NY Richard.

Susan (Moon) Gallup-Pasco d. abt 1854 in Warren Co, NY. Mom Phebe was still alive in 1860, living with married great-g'dau Susan (Gallup) Smith (Mrs. Henry), of Thurman & Warrensburg.

Can anyone help me unravel this Potter-Moon-Gallup mystery? Thanks.
