Interesting - thank you.I have these old census too somewhere. As you know, census are notoriously inaccurate information, as they were taken from whoever happened to be home that day or a nearby neighbor providing incorrect information, etc. However, they are sometimes all we have to go on.It's possible David Potter had a first wife and son, then married Mary Ettleman and had others. When a first son died in those days, it was common to name the next boy the same name too.So that is another possibility.David Potter has been an elusive bugaboo in our whole search in our family and none of us have been able to get beond him but all our best info leads most strongly to his being born in Virginia.Tell your friend I will forward your information on to two others in my family.I also know two other cousins who descend from
Sarah Potter (descendent of John) and one has pictures of the Gaffneys, as do I.If your friend would like to contact Lois or myself, let me know. And if any of us can track down more about David Potter, I would be THRILLED!I will tell Lois Harrison to check this message board for your notes.
