James Bradford "Brad" Potter, Dade County, Georgia
Need family history information about James Bradford Potter, my great uncle.
Richard, shown in the 1840 census, does not appear in the 1850 census of Dade County, but his family is shown under the household head of Kissiah Roach, his mother-in-law. The census gives the following persons living in this household: Kissiah Roach, age 62, farmer, born in Virginia; Richard’s wife, Sarah, age 34, born in Tennessee; Kissiah, age 19, born in Tennessee; Caroline, age 17, born in Tennessee; Margaret, age 15, born in Tennessee; Sarah, age 13, born in in Georgia, Richard, age 12, born in Georgia-, Bradford, age 10, born in Georgia; Nancy, age 9, born in Georgia; John, age 6, born in Georgia; Elizabeth, age 4, born in Georgia.

State of Georgia, Dade County
To the Superior Court of Said County the petition of Brad Potter, John Potter, W. B. F. Sizemore & E. B. Sizemore the last named two being the heirs at law of Margaret Sizemore formerly Margaret Potter their deceased mother, all heirs of Richard Potter deceased.Commenced their actions of Ejectment in Dade Superior Court against Richard Potter, Bettie Potter, and Caroline Potter tenants in possession to recover one undivided sixth interesteach in the South half of lot of land no. 90 in the 18th District and 4th Section of said county containing eight acres more or less and at the March Term 1893, of said court judgment was rendered recovering one undivided sixth interest each in said eighty areas of land for John Potter & Brad Potter and one undivided sixth interest for W. B. F. Sizemore and E. B. Sizemore the share of their deceased mother Margaret Sizemore formerly Margaret Potter all of said parities owning one undivided sixth interest in said land as the heirs at law of Richard Potter deceased the father and grandfather of your petitioners, all being equally interested and owners of said land.Petitioners further show unto your honor that there is about thirty areas of said land closed up and in cultivation and tenement house on it and some out buildings that about all of said land is closed that can be cultivated its balance about fifty areas in the high rocky hills which is only valuable for mineral and timber having on it a deposit of iron ore and fine clay and that said land can’t be divided into six equal shares owing to its location and mineral deposits.
The remises considered Petitioners pray that your Honor may pass an order directing ordering the sale of said land either at public out cry or at private sale after being duly advertised as may appear most equitable and just and at said sale the the purchaser shall acquire the whole of the title to said land and the right and title thereof after the expenses of said sale are paid the balance of the money arising from the sale of said land be equally divided between the said six heirs as herein before stated and that your Honor may pass such other and further order as may appear equitable and just in the premises and your petitioners pray that the said Richard Potter, Caroline Potter & Bettie Potter may be served with a copy of this petition and that they show cause in any they can why said land should not be sold and the money divided as prayed for.
