This Philip Pottorf, b. 1757, is likely the son-in-law of George Adam Bright, born Brecht in 1731/2, in Lancaster Co., Pa. Philip Pottorf is mentioned in George's estate settlement. George left a will (1804) in Augusta County, Va., which county is adjacent to Rockbridge Co. His estate was finally settled in 1814.
Philip Pottorf received money from the executors of said Geroge's estate for two legatees, David and Sarah Pottorf, in or around 1808. Possibly they received money because of their age or because they were still unmarried and living at home with their father Philip.
What are the names of the six children of Philip Pottorf that you mention?
In his will, Geo. Adam Bright stated that his FIVE daughters, or their heirs, were to receive a certain sum of money, but he did not name his daughters.
Do you know the name of Philip Pottorf's wife? It cannot be Mary, Sarah, or Elizabeth, three of the known daughters of George who did marry other men, respectively, a Liptrap, a Kaufelt and a Lott, or Barbarah, who may not have married.
I do know that Elizabeth Potter, d/o Philip Pottorf (the way he signed the marriage bond), married James Liptrap, 1808, in Rockbridge Co. I have seen the marriage bond. James was a grandson of Geroge Adam Bright and was mentioned as a legatee in his estate as was his father Isaac Liptrap.
Evidently this d/o George (name unknowned at present) eloped with Philip Pottorp, going to Maryland, since no record exists in Augusta County. The Bright family stayed for a while near Baltimore County, MD, adjacent to York County, PA, up until 1759, before moving down into Virginia. This is where the d/o of George, wife of Philip, was no doubt born.It would have been in the late 1770's or early 80's (1757+21=1778), when Philip Pottorf married the d/o of Geo. Adam Bright.
How are you documenting David, s/o Philip, as being born in 1782?
Would like to hear from you or anyone else that may know the answers to my questions!
