The 1801 marriage record listed on Ancestry.com for Thomas Potter and Susannah Shockley comes from the following book:
"Source Information:
Dodd, Jordan R, et. al. Early American Marriages: Virginia to 1850. Bountiful, UT: Precision Indexing Publishers, 19xx."
I ran across it recently when searching for the parents of my Zachariah POTTER, b. abt 1797 VA. He married Mary Ann PLUMLEE most likely in Overton or Jackson Co TN in early 1818. On the 1820 census for Overton Co, there is a Susannah Potter, and in her household are a male and female the right ages to be Zachariah and Mary Ann. This is the only Potter household in the area where Zachariah lived, so I am trying to determine if this Susannah was his mother or possibly his step-mother. I have run across the name Thomas Potter as a father to Zachariah before, but without any documentation, so I am looking for any Thomas Potter in the right time frame who married a woman named Susannah. This marriage record is all I have come up with so far. And I found on familysearch a Thomas Potter born 1746 VA who died in Warren Co KY, if it is correct. Warren Co is close to Jackson Co TN, so you can see why the information caught my eye.
If you have any info that might help me on this, please contact me.
