Thomas Potter b 1746 VA
There has been a mistake made by many researchers that Thomas Potter b 1746 married Susannah Shockley in Franklin Co, VA in 1801.I believe the following facts correct this erronous assumption.
The Frederick Potter Bible shows Frederick's mother was Susannah Potter, d 9 Aug 1806 57 yrs. That would make her birth date c 1749.Frederick Potter was born in 1785.Copies of this can be found in the WKU Library in Bowling Green, KY.
We found two deeds, one in Henry Co. VA dated 25 Sep 1783 between Frederick Rives and wife, Mary, and Thomas Potter and wife, Susannah. Also in Franklin Co. Va. 4 Aug 1787 between the same parties.Several other deeds mentioning Thomas and other Potter in various counties in VA have been published.
So far, I know of no one who has located a marriage for Thomas Potter b 1746 and Susannah ????Also the parents of this Thomas has not been documented. However there is a deed in Pittsylvania Co, VA. dated 1 Apr 1768 between a Thomas Potter and Lewis Jenkins.... wit. Thomas Potter Junr...
Thomas Potter also married Ann McGee in Barren Co. KY on 25 Sep 1808, Sec. Joshua Potter, wit. John Potter. This marriage bond is located in the Barren Co. KY Courthouse. Thomas named this Ann as his wife in his will. At the time of this second marriage, Thoms was 62 years old and we know of no children born to this marriage.
Thomas and Susannah had at least 11 children as listed in his will dated 1821.The children listed were: Lewis, Elisha, Reuben, William, Benjamin, Joshua, John, Rachel, Betsy, Frederick and Nancy.
I have not located any documentation as to the parentage of the Thomas Potter who married Susannah Shockley.
