JOHN, JOHN Q. and ISAAC POTTER
Seeking information on JOHN POTTER who married MARTHA JANE DINNING/DENNING, in Coles County, Illinois, on March 5, 1850. They had a son JOHN QUINCY POTTER, b @1857, who married SARAH JANE ALLEN, Dec. 24, 1884 in Saline County, Nebraska. Sarah's sister, EMMA RUTH ALLEN married MARTHA DINNING POTTER'S brother, DAVID JAMES DINNING on Mar 10, 1881 in Saline County, NE.JOHN Q. POTTER, would later sign an affidavid on David James Dinning's behalf in order that he might get an increase in his invalid pension from the Civil War. This occurred in Nebraska. All 3 men belonged to GAR Posts in Nebraska. After David's death, Emma moved to Colorado to homestead. Colorado GAR lists JOHN POTTER and JOHN Q. POTTER as members of the GAR post 022 in El Paso County, Colorado Springs, Colorado. Believe JOHN Q. POTTER had a son HARRY BLAINE POTTER.
There is also an ISAAC N. POTTER listed in Nebraska GAR post 25 who served with the 2nd Iowa Calvary. Believe ISAAC to be the son of JOHN POTTER and the brother of JOHN Q. POTTER since Isaac and John Q.mustered into the same regiment and were both members of the same GAR unit. GAR post 25 was located in Lincoln, Lancaster County, Nebraska, where the family lived at one time.
Any information about these families would be greatly appreciated. Have many records to share.Brenda Murphy
