Charles Poston (I call "the first") first shows up in Whitchurch, Salop, England marrying Anne Green 1776., shoemaker. Ann's father John Green had shoe shop and a butcher shop. Charles the first and Anne had 11 children, all born in Whitchurch. Seven appear to have lived to adulthood. One son, Charles Sr, was born 1789.
Anne died in 1805. Charles the first remarried Mary Yardley also of Whitchurch, Shropshire, England, in 1809. Charles and Mary had 6 children, all appear to have lived to adulthood. Mary died in 1825 and Charles Poston the first died in 1832. They were all buried in Whitchurch.
Charles Senior immigrated to Quebec City, Canada sometime before 1820. He was a coal merchant. He married Jessamine Mountain on 1821 at Quebec City. They had eight children all born in Quebec City: Elizabeth, James Glover, Mary Ann, Susan, Ann, William B. and Charles Henry(Junior) who was born in 1824. Jessamine (Jessie) died in 1844 and it appears that Charles Sr did not remarry. According to family oral history, Charles Sr decided to return to England to claim the family estates. He caught pneumonia on the ship and died in London and is buried in Kensal Green Cemetery, All Souls section, in 1853, of which I have pics.
Charles Jr. took over the family business in Quebec City and married Dorothy Nichols in 1847. She and their infant daughter Dorothea died in 1848. He remarried in 1852 to Charlotte Tweddell and they had 7 children, only 3 of which lived past the age of 2 years to adulthood. They are Albert Henry b: 1858, Ella Winifred b: 1860, and James Saxon b: 1862. Charles died in 1874. Charlotte remarried to Thomas Frederick (F. Thomas)Bradley.
Albert Henry moved to North Dakota and married Catherine Ross(daughter of Drummond Ross and Maria Jane Beamish Ross Taschereau. They had seven children and finally settled in the Spokane area of Washington State. The children were Charles Albert, Ella, Adele, Cecil Augustus, Gertrude, Gordon Ross and Maude.
The three oldest sons of Charles the first and Mary Yardley Poston immigrated to Quebec City I'm guessing before 1840. Edward married Mary Anne English, William married Susan Todd, and Thomas married Jane Nattress, all in Quebec City. The brothers were all grocers.
I have more info but would really like to hear from anyone researching any of these families.
Is there anyone who knows anything about these 4 brothers even if they aren't directly related to you? I seem to be the only one on the web researching this particular Poston (said like Boston). I really hope this isn't true!!
