Hi Mary Jean, My husband, Henry (Hank) , has ancestors from Friesland with the surnames of BROERSMA--POSTHUMUS--LAANSMA--KATSMA--BAKKER-KUIPERS See rest of Friesian surnames below . In 1810, Obbo Catharinus POSTHUMUS married a Gyrttie BROERSMA. They lived in Exmorra. Their son Pier Obes married Boukjen Tabes BORKES about 1838; and their son Hinne married Maaike LAANSMA 4/27/1876) Maaike and Hinne had many sons, 6-8 and their son Pier married Jennie BAKKER daughter of Andrew and Louise KUIPERS BAKKER. This is the family that emigrated from Friesland and came to the US. They settled in the Garfield/ Paterson area of NJ. Pier and Jennie were Hank's grandparents. The LAANSMA line ended up in Michigan. I believe, the Grand Rapids region. We know that a lot of the POSTHUMUS's ended up in Michigan as well, however, we do not know where a connection exists, but we're sure there is one somewhere. Please note our Friesian surnames below. Happy Hunting. Rose (POSTHUMUS) in the Smokies, NC Friesian (Holland) Surnames: Primary line: AGEMA - BAKKER - BOERSMA / BROERSMA - BORKES - DEDDINGA - DOMNA - HARKES - HENDRICKS - KATSMA - KUIPERS - LAANSMA - POSTHUMUS / POSTHUMA / POSTMA - YPMA Secondary line: HAMERSMA
