I do recognise this family group, and can supply you with a lot of detail. The Postgate/ Posgate family is large and complex, so I may mot have got every detail right- so do let me know of any inconsistences.
The common ancester is Francis Postgate (1737-1803) who married Ann Atkinson (?-?) in 1761. My wife is descended from his 2nd son Francis (1770- ?) who married Ann Dixon (?-?) in 1793.
I believe your line is descended from his eldest son Robert (1765-?) who married Jane Kell (1765-1831) in 1785 and had 12 children including Francis (1792-1853).
I had also found his marriage to Elizabeth Dickinson in 1815, but did not know about a 2nd marriage to Elizabeth Cummins. Therefore I had erroneously assumed that the Elizabeth Postgate who died in qtr ending Dec 1866 was the 1st Elizabeth. Her will was proved in March 1867 and the benificary was Thomas Cummins, mason- a brother or nephew?
You also make me wonder who was the mother of Thomas, born about 1823? The first or 2nd Elizabeth? Or did he have a different father (Cummins?) and is the Thomas Cummins in the 1867 willher son? If so Elizabeth Cummins might have been a widow when she married Francis.
The other William you have found is a relation. He is another son of Francis (1770-) and Ann Dixon, born in 1800. He married Mary Ann Wilson (1805- ?). Interestingly for you his grandson Frederick Postgate (1872-?) married a Frances Coates (1972-1901)in 1896.
Your reply has opened up other lines of research. I will be very interested in your observations on the above.
