Thanks for getting back to me. I was so happy to hear from you and Sidney. Sure a lot of Sidneys in that family. I wasn't even aware that Meredith had started a whole new family with Katherine. What a big, wonderful family it must have been.
I am glad that your husband could confirm what my Aunt told me about Meredith & my grandfather being estranged. You mentioned that at one point Meredith thought he had located his brother's son. That would have been my gf Mark's son, Bill. Bill died of diabetes when he was in his 30's in the 1960's. Apart from Bill, my gf had 3 girls. Two were twins - Margaret and Martha. Martha died as a young girl. The other girl, Doris, is my mother.
I'm told the reason for the estrangement was money, but I think jealousy might have had something to do with it. My Aunt told me that Meredith and Mark's mother could only afford to send one son to university. After graduation, that son was supposed to help finance the other son's education. Meredith attended university, but my gf was never able to. First, WWI came along, then wives and children, and their father's death in 1925, etc. Life just didn't work out the way my GF had hoped. I suspect he was upset that he didn't have the opportunity Meredith had. My gf worked as an accountant and then a small business man. His real name was Marks Vivian Posey. He later changed his name to William. I'm told that his mother took the name "Vivian" from a Victorian novel she was reading. Kind of funny.
Thank you for sharing how Meredith met Katherine. I can't tell you how long I have been wondering about this side of the family. Do you have any idea where Lawrence might be living? Has Sidney done much genealogical research on his Posey branch? I have quite a bit of info.
