Hello Everyone -- KNOWN children of Capt. John Posey and wife Martha (Price) widow:
John Price Posey aka Price (hanged for arson)m. Ann Kidley Chamberlayne...
He had children -- if he had a son DNA would be good.
Amelia "Milly"
Hanson Posey -- Sons?
St. Lawrence Posey -- Sons?
I always questioned the supposition that Gen. Thomas Posey was Capt. John's son -- why would he not be mentioned in George WAshington's papers as the above-named children are -- along with the other Capt. Posey children?
More importantly, Martha Price Harrison Posey [as Marhta Posey] witnessed a deed of Lawrence Washington in 1752 -- and there is a record of her in June 1750 as still Martha Harrison. If Thomas Posey's birthdate of 1750 is correct, he is probably not the son of Capt. John and Martha Price Harrison Posey.
I too, believed that Thomas came from the Maryland side of the Potomac. Now that you report that Thomas's line does not match the Posey of Charles County line, that's interesting. It would be interesting to compare Thomas's line to the WAshington line through his uncles.
Now as to whether Capt. John Posey is related to the Charles County ones--probably. George Washington's papers mention sending Capt. John to Maryland to do business on his behalf, because of his many contacts there.
One THEORY -- John Posey Sr. of Charles Co. whose will was presented 1759 -- named a son John Jr. Could that John Jr be Capt. John? John Senior also had a son named Thomas... This family is associated with the Dunningtons and Elgins who witness this will. I believe land records might help with this.
A direct-line male descendant of Capt. John would need to take this DNA test and I have not been able to trace his sons very well. Again, Price had children with Ann Kidley Chamberlayne, but I do not have their names. He was found guilty of arson in 1787.
It is reported (with no source) that Hanson went to Frederick County, Virginia (Shenandoah) -- Last mention of St. Lawrence was when a man named Baker appealed to George Washington to help the boy who was working in a tavern in Queenstown, Maryland in 1772.
