Jonathan,
Answer to question 1.If I put 17 Jun 1767, that is wrong. It is 7 June 1767.I had trouble with the 1777 date that is in all the history books and other written material. I couldn’t make Humphrey, Benjamin and John fit and I knew they had to, so I got the microfilm of the marriage record and though it is hard to read, it clearly states:
North Carolina}
Chatham County}Whearas Anna Posey hath this day applied to me for a certificate
of marriage_________between her, the said Anna Posey and Nehemiah Posey of the same county, of the said state on the 7th day of June in the year of our Lord 1767.
I so hereby certify that on the day and date above the mentioned Nehemiah Posey and Anna Trauntham was lawfully joined together in the Holy Estate of matrimony.
Certified before me this 15th day of Dec 1777.
John Brantly J.P.
Entered 25 Sept 1819
R. Moreland CCO( Smart Lady!! JM)
With this certification and the fact that she recorded it in Pulaski County at the time of Nehemiah’s death along with the fact that she was living separately in 1790, I really believe that these other males were not her’s. I forgot to mention that I think Benjamin Smith who signed the administration papers was her son-in-law.
About the age of Nehemiah Jr. I don’t know when he was born. His father could have had other children before Anna decided to certify her marriage.
I don’t know the ages of those other males living in Pulaski County. I have tried to find them but haven’t been successful. If son William were born in the 1790s, he would be one that was not recorded.Also about Humphrey Jr., at that time Jr. could mean a male was named for his father but it could also mean he was the younger of two people named the same thing that lived is the same vicinity as with the case of Humphrey.
Thank you for clearing up the matter of “in her own wrong”, I felt that was the case but I had asked a lawyer and a well-known genealogist in GA, and neither could give me an answer.I thought she might have been Nehemiah’s latest but Macajah and Noah both said they were born in SC.If this was the case they couldn’t be the sons of Nehemiah.He was in GA in 1805 when he registered for the 1807 land lottery. They could have been mistaken about SC as John was. I just haven’t found the answer yet but there is one more place to look that I just recently found in my files that I had somehow missed before.I plan to check it out about the middle of Nov when I have to go by the archives.I will check on Greene County at the same time.I know that Bennett Posey and his brother Benjamin were there but I don’t remember seeing any other Posey.
I hope this clears up a few things. Joy
