I have not researched most POSEY lines past mid 1700s, and know of no Indian connections. A recent survey found that 40% of the population (not genealogists) with southern ancestry claim descent from American Indians. This is higher than the percentage that claim descent from an ancestor that fought for the Confederacy, and undoubtedly higher than the actual number that do have Indian ancestry. The answer lies in the fact of changes in perception. In the 19th century it was often considered a disgrace to have Indian ancestry. With the beginning of the 20th century and discovery of oil on Indian land, there were perceived advantages (with perhaps dreams of getting rich) by claiming Indian ancestry, whether they had any or not. To this day, to have Indian ancestry is "fashionable." On the other side "political correctness" makes people now try to distance themselves with anything to do with the Condederacy, and deny THAT heritage. Whether your POSEY (or any POSEY) line does have some connection with Indian ancestry, only research will show.
