I have this George Washington Portwood as b. 1832 or 1832, Terra Haute, Vigo Co., IN, d. 1891, Bethel, Polk Co., OR or 1890 near McCoy, Polk Co., OR.Appears in the following census records:
1) 1850, 61st Dist., Knox Co., IN (w/parents)
2) 1850, Macon Dist., Macon Co., IL (w/parents) [the family was enumerated twice, once in IN & once in IL]
3) 1855, Shelby Co., IL
4) 1859, Drywood Twp., Bourbon Co., KS
5) 1870, Drywood Twp., Bourbon Co., KS [p.372]
6) 1880, Bethel, Polk Co., OR [p.437B]
He m. (1) Sept. 1, 1852, Shelby Co., IL to Mary Sue Armstrong [Bk. 1, p.33] (2) Feb. 15, 1855, Shelby Co., IL to Martha Denton [Bk. C, p.153] & (3) Apr. 17, 1859, Bourbon Co., KS to Sarah Delilah Boleyn.
By his 1st wife Mary, he had 1 dau. Elizabeth Annie Portwood, b. Jan. 13, 1854, Macon Co., IL who m. Jan. 5, 1873, Christian Co., IL to John D. Hays [Bk. B, p.63, lic. #00003162].John & Elizabeth appear in the 1880 Census in Moweaqua Twp., Shelby Co., IL [p.115A, Dwl. #31, Fam. #31] w/dau. Sarah L. Hays (age 5, b. IL) and son George F. Hays (age 2, b. IL).I don't know anything else about descendantts of this couple.
I am unaware of any childen by George's 2nd wife Martha who died Oct. 26, 1856, Shelby Co., IL (about a year and a half after their marriage), but I show 11 more children by his 3rd wife Sarah.You can find out more information about these children in the Simpson Portwood descendant chart (updated just moments ago) on my web site at...
